Siobhan Davies Makes Safer Dishwasher Tablets at Home

Siobhan Davies and safer household cleaning

At a routine appointment, a naturopath told Siobhan Davies she could detect the smell of bleach on her body. The source was not medical; it was her everyday household cleaning routine.

That remark led her to slowly choose safer products, a change that became increasingly significant after her first child was born. Yet many alternatives seemed to involve a trade-off. Dishwasher tablets were either effective or affordable, but frequently contained ingredients she wanted to avoid.

Handmade dishwasher tablets with simple ingredients

Siobhan therefore started producing her own tablets. When she moved from Australia to Portugal, the humidity meant she had to refine the recipe through patience, experimentation and persistence. She now makes each tablet at home by hand, using straightforward, low-toxicity ingredients that are mixed, pressed and left to dry slowly.

Her approach is simple: swap daily essentials for safer alternatives, one small change at a time.
