Does your washing machine complete its programme as usual, yet the clothes are still very wet after spinning? Before assuming the appliance has developed a fault, it is worth checking a few aspects of the wash. How items are arranged in the drum, the programme selected and even the machine’s ability to drain can all affect how much water remains in fabrics at the end of the cycle.
Why can clothes come out of the washing machine very wet?
The spin cycle uses rapid movement to remove some of the water from clothing. If garments are gathered on one side of the drum or create an overly heavy load, the machine may lower its speed to prevent excessive vibration.
This is particularly noticeable with a small number of very heavy items, such as towels, blankets or washable rugs, or when too many clothes have been loaded at once. In these situations, the issue may be linked to how the load is distributed.
How does the distribution of clothes affect spinning?
The drum must be able to rotate evenly in order to reach the appropriate speed. When clothes become tangled or collect in one area, the system may detect an imbalance and restrict the spin cycle.
Should this occur, stop the machine in accordance with the manufacturer’s instructions and spread the clothes evenly around the drum. Then select the spin stage again, if your appliance allows this.
Can the selected programme leave clothes wetter?
Yes. Not every programme uses the same spin speed or spin duration. Cycles designed for delicate fabrics, for instance, may use gentler movement to limit friction and protect the items.
For this reason, check the selected setting before deciding there is a fault. If the appliance provides several speeds, select one suitable for the fabric type and follow the care-label recommendations on the clothes.
What does drainage have to do with very wet clothes?
Water must drain properly before and during the spin cycle. If there is an obstruction or a fault in the drainage system, some water may remain in the appliance and prevent clothes from coming out as dry as expected.
Check whether the washing machine is draining water normally and look for unusual signs, such as slow drainage or water left in the drum. Do not dismantle internal components without guidance; consult the manual to find out which parts the user may inspect.
