A new anti-ageing gel now promises visibly smoother skin in record time – entirely without injections.
Many people want smoother, fresher-looking skin but do not want needles or to spend a small fortune at an aesthetic clinic. This is where a new anti-wrinkle product containing collagen and hyaluronic acid comes in. According to its manufacturer, it can visually fill wrinkles in literally one minute. The result is said to resemble Botox – except that it comes from a pharmacy tube.
What is behind the new anti-wrinkle gel?
The product is a facial wrinkle filler developed by the marine-skincare brand Thalgo, which has relied on ingredients from the sea for years. The gel is intended to be massaged directly into wrinkles and lines, where it delivers a smoothing, subtly plumping effect.
Its price sits in the mid-range cosmetics market. It is therefore aimed at people expecting more than a standard cream can offer, while not wanting to pay three-figure sums for regular dermatological treatments.
The manufacturer promises smoother skin, visibly softened wrinkles and a fresher facial appearance – just one minute after application.
How the Thalgo anti-wrinkle gel is designed to mimic Botox
Botox injections temporarily immobilise muscles, which helps to prevent expression lines. This new gel takes a different approach: it visually relaxes the skin’s surface, plumps it up and makes wrinkles appear less deep. Facial expressions remain fully mobile, and while the effect is purely topical, it is still intended to be clearly visible.
According to the manufacturer, its texture has a silicone-like feel: exceptionally smooth, refined and designed to create a ‘blur’ effect. Some users compare the sensation on the skin to professional photo filters: irregularities look softened, light is reflected more evenly and the complexion appears calmer.
Four types of hyaluronic acid for different layers of skin
At the heart of the formula are four forms of hyaluronic acid, a substance that binds water and can make skin appear plumper:
- High-molecular-weight hyaluronic acid: forms a fine layer over the skin’s surface, where it provides intensive hydration.
- Medium-molecular-weight hyaluronic acid: penetrates slightly further and helps fine lines look visibly smoother.
- Low-molecular-weight hyaluronic acid: reaches lower skin layers and may support improved elasticity over a longer period.
- Hyaluronic acid microspheres: tiny spheres that settle into wrinkles, draw in water and therefore act like a miniature filler.
The concept is to provide every layer of the skin with moisture and structure. This creates a multi-dimensional smoothing effect that is intended to be quickly visible.
Collagen and plant-based actives for added anti-ageing care
Alongside hyaluronic acid, the gel contains pro-marine collagen. Collagen provides the skin’s underlying structure and helps maintain firmness. As we age, its levels decline, leaving the skin looking less taut and wrinkles more pronounced.
The manufacturer combines collagen with:
- Alfalfa extract, a plant-based active intended to support regeneration of the skin’s surface.
- A marine ferment, an active obtained from marine microorganisms that is designed to strengthen the skin barrier and leave the complexion looking smoother.
The combination of hyaluronic acid, collagen and marine actives is intended not only to plump the skin in the short term, but also to improve its structure day after day.
How to apply the wrinkle filler
One notable feature is the packaging: rather than a standard tube, the product has a slim brush applicator. This allows the gel to be worked directly into individual wrinkles, such as those on the forehead, nasolabial folds or crow’s feet.
The recommended application involves three steps:
- Cleanse the face as usual and finish your regular skincare routine, including serum, moisturiser and sun protection.
- Use the brush to apply a very small amount of gel directly into the targeted wrinkle.
- Pat it in or smooth it out gently until the texture appears to blend into the skin.
The brand particularly recommends using it in the morning, when the complexion looks tired or when make-up needs to sit better. The gel can be worn beneath foundation or powder; alternatively, it can be applied only where needed, such as before appointments, video calls or an evening out.
What the first results are said to show
Thalgo carried out a small voluntary self-assessment study involving 21 testers. According to the manufacturer, around 90 per cent said their wrinkles appeared less visible after use. A further 95 per cent reported a plumping effect within one minute of the first application.
After four weeks of use, approximately 80 per cent felt their face looked younger and fresher overall. These figures are based on subjective self-assessments rather than a large clinical study. However, they offer an indication of how the product may be perceived in everyday use.
The wrinkle filler is described as a possible alternative for anyone considering Botox but reluctant about needles and invasive procedures.
Who may find the wrinkle filler useful?
This type of product is primarily aimed at people from their mid-thirties onwards, when expression lines remain visible for longer and a fast cosmetic solution is desired – ideally without drastic procedures.
Typical areas of use include:
- Forehead lines that remain visible even when the face is relaxed
- Frown lines between the eyebrows
- Crow’s feet around the eyes, applied carefully and not too close to the eye
- Fine lines around the mouth and along the lip contours
- Nasolabial folds, the lines running from the nose to the corners of the mouth
Anyone with very dry, sensitive or allergy-prone skin should, as with any new skincare product, carry out a small patch test on the forearm first and consult a dermatologist if in doubt.
How realistic is the one-minute effect?
Complete wrinkle removal in 60 seconds is unrealistic – neither this gel nor Botox can achieve that. What does seem realistic is an immediate visual improvement: fine lines may look softer, the skin texture smoother and the complexion fresher. This is made possible by light reflection, moisture-based plumping and the smoothing texture.
Those with very deep wrinkles should adjust their expectations. The wrinkle filler may improve their appearance, but it cannot work miracles. Even so, a noticeable difference can be visible, particularly when used with make-up, as foundation is less likely to settle heavily into lines.
Hyaluronic acid and collagen explained
Hyaluronic acid is a substance naturally found in the body that binds water in the skin like a sponge. Just one gram can retain several litres of water. In creams and gels, it can therefore provide immediate plumping and greater suppleness. The body produces less of it with age, which contributes to drier, thinner-looking skin.
Collagen is the skin’s supporting framework. It can be imagined as ropes holding everything together. Over the years, these ropes become thinner and more fragile, allowing wrinkles to form more quickly. Products containing collagen and collagen-stimulating actives aim to slow this process and restore more firmness to the skin.
How to combine the wrinkle filler effectively
Anyone wanting to get the greatest possible effect from this type of specialist product should align the rest of their skincare routine accordingly. Useful combinations include:
- A gentle cleanser that does not dry out the skin.
- A serum with antioxidants such as vitamin C to counter environmental damage.
- An evening treatment containing retinol or bakuchiol to stimulate skin renewal over time.
- Daily sun protection with a high SPF to help prevent new wrinkles caused by UV radiation.
The wrinkle filler then takes on the role of providing a quick effect: before appointments, at the office or whenever you want your reflection to look fresher at short notice.
Anyone interested in products like these should check the ingredients, listen to how their skin feels and avoid relying solely on promises on the packaging. A wrinkle filler can smooth over a great deal, but the foundation for healthy, smooth skin remains a consistent, balanced skincare routine and a reasonably relaxed lifestyle.
